GMC in Stillwater, OK

Worn Alternator

The alternator helps produce electricity for vehicle systems. The alternator is very robust, only usually requiring replacement after around seven or eight years (however this varies depending on mileage and driving habits). When an alternator starts to wear out, its electricity production drops and will continue to fall until the alternator fails.

A drop in electricity supply might not be immediately noticeable. Once the alternator can’t supply power for all your vehicle’s systems, you’ll experience issues like dim lights, slow accessories, and seemingly random electrical glitches. We’ll test your alternator and replace it if it’s failing.

Transmission Noises

The transmission and engine work together to move your GMC. The engine produces energy, and the transmission uses the gears to allocate the correct amount of energy to the wheels to ensure they move at the desired speed. A healthy transmission doesn’t make any sounds as it smoothly shifts from gear to gear according to the demands of the transmission computer.

If you hear buzzing, humming, or whining noises, these are signs of a transmission problem. They could be caused by low transmission fluid, a damaged torque converter, or worn parts. Transmission problems worsen if not repaired, which could cause a transmission failure. Our technicians will find and fix the issue.

Illuminated Warning Lights

Your dash warning lights all light up when your engine starts, then switch off within seconds. This is normal, and part of the tests your car’s computer performs to check all is well. If one or more of these lights remain on, it’s a sign something is wrong. Some lights identify issues with a particular system, like the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), while others have a broader scope, like the check engine light.

Your GMC contains a host of sensors, each connected to an important system. These sensors relay information to your computer and receive instructions from it, allowing your vehicle to work effectively. The sensors also monitor their connected component for signs of trouble. If a problem is detected, the relevant sensor warns your computer, and a warning light will illuminate. We’ll identify and repair the problem, and the light will go out.
